To complete the activities for Saturday we decided to go to Guiana Zoo on the way back to Kourou. The Zoo is located just outside Macouria and is a refuge to more than 450 animals including rare and protected species. Many of them have been brought to the centre for medical care and rehabilitation after being found injured by the public. The centre treats them and if they can be returned to the wild then they are. Those that cannot are very well cared for by the care centre. There is trail around the zoo that takes around 2 hours and includes a suspended walk in and around the forest canopy. There were an amazing selection of animals ranging from camera shy monkeys and a black panther to anteaters who sleep for 16 hours a day!
